In the twentieth century, evil returns to earth, in the form of a very pissed off Queen Beryl; and so does the Prince and Princess. Prince Endymion being reborn as Chiba Mamoru, an intelligent and serious young man who also happens to be mucho attractive (*.^), and Princess Serenity being born as Tsukino Usagi, a meat-ball headed ditz who rarely recieves higher than a 32 on her tests.
The two were first reunited as young children. Mamoru and his family got into a disastrous vehicle accident and only he survived. After the accident he lost his memory and was kept in the hospital for some time. During his time at the hospital, Usagi was there also, only under more joyous conditions. Her mother had just given birth to her brother, Shingo. Being the cute little girl she was, Usagi was wandering around the hospital sharing the wonderful news with everyone she encountered, including little Mamoru. She introduced herself, told her story, and gave him a flower hoping to cheer him up.
While he was there, Mamoru met a little boy named Foire, who like himself was lonely and needed a friend. The day Usagi met Mamoru was the day Foire was leaving and Mamoru was sad for the loss of his friend. The flower did, however, help brighten his day. - as a side note, you might want to watch the movie "Sailor Moon R" for more details on that.
After that day it would have been approximately ten years before the two destined lovers saw eachother again.
Usagi wandered down the street wondering exactly what she was going to do about her grade. Once again she recieved a 32 on a test. She knew her mother was going to kill her and she tried to stall on her way home. At this point, Usagi is 14 years old and attending Juuban Junior High School.
As she wanders down the sidewalk wondering how she will evade her mother, the always graceful Usagi (yeah right!) runs smack dab into the bodacious babe Mamoru. Just like every other time they run into eachother afterwards, Mamoru basically acts like a jerk and mocks her and her meat-ball resembling hair. Usagi tells him he's a mean jerk and stalks off, like always, thinking about how attractive he is. Quote: "He sure is cute though!" teehee ^.^
For quite some time there is little romantic interaction between the ex-royalty. They often find themselves around eachother and into interesting situations, many of which tend to have quite a romantic streak in them.
What they don't know is that that are around eachother even more than that. Both with their alter egos. Usagi as the pretty soldier Sailormoon and Mamoru as the silent but poetic Tuxedo Kamen. Whenever Sailormoon is in danger Tuxedo Kamen is always there to rescue and inspire her.
After these encounters, before, and between, Heck! All the time it seems, Serena (and it's quite appropriate, I might add) fantasizes about the mysterious Tuxedo Kamen. Who is he, what is his real name, where does he come from? She often wonders. But all the time they fight together, neither of them ever know who the other is. That is until the battle for the Rainbow Crystals reaches it's peak.
When one of Beryl's general's, Zoisite, attacks Mamoru in hopes of retrieving the rest of the Rainbow Crystals from him, he is injured. When he goes home to rest, Zoisite appears and challenges him to a duel to the death. Winner takes all the crystals.
After this, Mamoru leaves to meet Zoisite at the appointed place when he runs into Usagi. Being the joker type she usually is when she is around him, she slaps him on the back and he lets out a moan of pain and excuses himself in a most abnormally kind way. Usagi is quite confused by this and when she looks down at her arm she seems blood. Blood from his back. After seeing this, she rushes after him to investigate.
Usagi follows Mamoru all the way to Tokyo Tower, where he is to meet Zoisite. She follows him into the tower and they become trapped in an elevator which is steadily rising to the top of the tower.
During their time in the elevator they both think quite a bit about themselves and eachother. At this point Mamoru shares his past with Usagi, causing a certain tenderness in her heart for him. The excitement escelates when Zoisite tries to cheat and break the cord holding the elevator, but luckily Usagi and Mamoru make it out safely.
When they exit the elevator Zoisite is waiting for them and both are forced to reveal their identities to one another. Both are surprised, but I think pleasantly as well. When Sailormoon wants to help Tuxedo Kamen in his battle, she is forced to stand to the side as a spectator and watch his impending doom.
When Mamoru is struck with a mortal wound Usagi rushes to his side. As her tears fall from her face onto his prone body, the reunited Rainbow Crystals merge into the Silver Imperium Crystal and join with Sailormoon's Crescent Wand. At this point Usagi and Mamoru realize their true past as Prince and Princess as well as realize their destiny together as lovers.
Though their reunion is sweet, the lovers' reunion is also short when Kunzite, another of Beryl's generals, is sent to kidnap the Prince. Kunzite was successful in his retrieval, but was not able to get the Silver Imperium Crystal from Sailormoon.
After this happens, Usagi goes into a depression but is determined to get Mamoru back. When she sees him next, as Tuxedo Kamen, she is stunned by his transformation. He is no longer the Mamoru she once knew. Not only does he not love her, but he is also now a menion of Queen Beryl. When the Queen kidnapped him she warped his mind and bent him to her will, making him her knight who would retrieve the Silver Imperium Crystal for her.
For some time, like before, Tuxedo Kamen appears at many of Sailormoon's battles, keeping her from getting herself killed. But while before there was a mutual goal and affection, now there is only his cold demeanor and desire for the Silver Imperium Crystal.
At one point, Usagi is able to use the healing power of the Silver Imperium Crystal to bring Mamoru back to his usual self, but Beryl takes him again and begins the brain-washing once again.
Finally the scouts, with the help of the two guardian cats, Luna and Artemis, find the location of Queen Beryl's palace in the arctic. When the scouts get there they all fight valiantly, but all are defeated except Sailormoon. Then Usagi spots Mamoru who, to her dismay, has once again been transformed by the Negaverse.
Determined to make him good again, Usagi pleaded with Mamoru expressing her love and finally he came to his senses. Once again the lovers reunited. However, like before, it was short. Sailormoon, who now became the Moon Princess fought the strong Queen Beryl. She called upon the spirits of her fellow scouts and defeated the evil queen. All was safe in Japan. Except now everyone has lost their memories of what had happened as fighters of evil.
